Sleepy Hollow
In his legend, Washington Irving wrote of a little valley and enchanted region known as Sleepy Hollow. He described it as a place where ghosts and goblins roam through haunted fields, brooks, and bridges. He talked of the terrible Headless Horseman who raced through the night by the Old Dutch Church. The Pocantico River now runs through the graveyard where Irving is buried. It is at the mouth of the Pocantico River that your will start your tour of Sleepy Hollow.
Sleepy Hollow Half Day/3 Hour Tour
This is a great venue for beginning and skilled paddlers to experience the Hudson River. We begin each tour with basic instruction and continue our teaching on the water, tailoring to individual needs. All of our guides are well trained, and are eager to help you improve your paddling regardless of your skill level. On this tour we paddle south, past “Kidd Rock”, a large rock outcropping that was, according to legend, used by the infamous pirate Captain Kidd for illegal trading activities with local landowner Frederick Philipse. The trip continues past the historic 1883 Tarrytown Lighthouse, which is on the National Register of Historic Places and once protected steamships from the shoals along the eastern shore of the river. We will then head towards the Tappan Zee Bridge, a three-mile long cantilever style span that links Westchester and Rockland Counties. On a clear day, the Manhattan skyline is visible from this area of the river. This is our most popular tour and a fantastic way to get into kayaking.

Sleepy Hollow\ Philipseburg Manor 3 Hour Tour
This tour leaves from our boathouse in Sleepy Hollow. Depending upon conditions, we kayak south to the Tarrytown Lighthouse, and then north up the Pocantico River. After a few twists and turns, we end up at the historic grist mill and ferry landing at Philipsburg Manor. Here we disembark for a self-guided tour of the grounds. Costumed interpreters re-enact life in pre- revolutionary times doing chores, milking the cows, and grinding grain in the grist mill. After our tour of the grounds we get back into our kayaks, winding past the farm that we have just toured, and make our way back out to the Hudson River to our Sleepy Hollow Boathouse.
